About trending birds…

I dunno if you’ve noticed but birds have been of recent a popular motif in ceramics, china, art, stationery and clothing.

Me, I love love love birds so am I trendy? What if I’ve always loved birds? Since 12.

My bedroom window was right next to a tall leafy tree in a green suburb in Malaysia. I’d look out and see birds on that tree. To me, they represented freedom. I often imagined myself as a sparrow sitting on the window ledge flying away from some of the worst times in my life.

I remember, even then, having prints of birds and the humble sparrow up on my walls, when my friends would have Bryan Adams and Michael Jackson posters around their room. (Till today, I have kept one of those prints amongst my childhood memories.)

Back in 2003, I had a daily visitation from about 30 cockatoos right outside my granny studio/flat whilst living in the Blue Mountains. While I know they were only looking for an easy feed of bird seeds, it felt special knowing that they chose me! I toyed with the idea of knowing my own yellow and white cockatoo after then.

(My landlady did not like cockatoos around her house (they are regarded a pest by many for chewing on their wooden houses)

So this bird trend coincides with my love for birds. Difference is, this trend will go as it has come.

What trends have come (and/or gone) that coincided with something you’ve always loved?
