Luxury in the toilet

In our new home, there are two toilets. The one in the ensuite leaks so we don’t use it but to store luggage until such a time we can afford to repair the toilet. We’re happy using the other one for now (only one toilet to clean!).

Our new toilet, empty, boring, claustrophobic

This other one is a four walled space, no windows, just the apricot toilet with its apricot toilet seat cover sitting on tiles that are apricot in colour; in the middle of a tiny room painted apricot, with an apricot door and apricot door handle.

More proof, that the entire home looks like someone’s poured 50 gallons of cream paint on EVERYTHING.

Too apricot-claustrophobic

I needed to inject some interest pronto. Something that kills the boredom, that breaks up that apricot-hell.

What I’d like is to be able to wallpaper the entire space in a bold and beautiful print. (see my previous post about wallpapering small spaces). But there are other more important, more desperate needs (like a fence outside) that trumps wallpaper. Or a working second toilet.

I decided to install Ikea RÖNNSKÄR wall shelving above the toilet seat and display a small collection of items in pinks, oranges and reds. Something like a bathroom in DVO’s O At Home apartment tour:

I found some really cool jeweled soaps.

(Bearing in mind these luxe-wrapped bars are not cheap, here in Australia!)

I love Sohum‘s line of products. I use their Cotton Flower Body Moisture Creme and it’s a treasured item of luxury in my home. But they also have luxurious soaps in pretty powder-puff-like boxes!

Or maybe I’ll just DIY some, wrap some thick bars of soap with some pretty paper.

Have you been to Kleins Perfumery here in Melbourne? There is one on Brunswick Street Fitzroy, and one on Acland Street St Kilda too. They have beautifully wrapped soaps for not too much money and the store itself is amazing. You should check it out if you have time.
