I can fly!

I love children’s books… more specifically, I love the illustrators behind children’s books…

I feature children’s books often on my blog. Beatrix Potter, Jill Barklem’s Brambly Hedge, George Mendoza’s A House by Mouse

Now I add another delightful book: The Golden Book‘s I Can Fly!

First published in 1951, it features the most darling of illustrations. This is a reprint, bought brand new maybe 2 years ago for Hannah but the illustrations have not been altered since 1951.

I read this to Hannah tonight and was again enchanted by the sweet illustrations. I am keen to purchase another copy just so I can frame my favourite pages to adorn Hannah’s room :)

Disney-honoured illustrator Mary Blair teamed up with writer Ruth Krauss to produce pages like this:

Of course, a quick browse online and I find someone else’s already done it with the very same book! This is Very Important chose simple light-wood frames for her pages.

There are some really beautiful Golden Books around and I must admit, I’m a sucker for them. Me, in my mid-thirties… I think I now derive more pleasure from them than my little six year old, who thinks they’re too young for her!

What’s your favourite Golden Book?

The Woman behind the Blog

Welcome to my blog! It’s such a pleasure having you here.

What are you inspired by? I am inspired by beautiful and bright interiors, fabric, furniture, pinks, yellows, greens, chairs, china, trees, chocolate, peonies, hydrangeas, cherry blossoms, roses and rhubarb with cream.

Friends and family call me drey (pronounced 'dree'... short for Audrey) and I can often be found zipping through op-shops and vintage stores in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia.
